Cannot Get Rid of Unread Items in Calendar on Exchange Server

I've posted this problem before in the Outlook calendaring newsgroup,
but it was suggested that I start a new thread to be more specific. I
have also crossposted this request to the Exchange applications and
Exchange clients newsgroups. If anyone believes there is a more
accurate or on-topic newsgroup for my post, please feel free to suggest
it. If I've inadvertently posted this to an inappropriate newsgroup, my
apologies in advance.

(If your X-No-Archive flag is turned on, could you please e-mail me a
copy of your reply? I will primarily be using Google Groups to follow
responses, if any, on this thread.)

Anyway, here is the problem.

My employer uses a Microsoft Exchange server. I am using Outlook 2002
[specifically, Microsoft Outlook 2002 (10.4712.4219) SP-2] on my work
computer.

At home, I use Mac OS X, and I generated a list of birthdays at my
workplace using Apple's iCal application. I then exported those events
into a standard *.ics file. I then brought that file to work and
imported it into my Outlook calendar.

I then decided that I did not want those dates in my calendar. I went
into a table view, and deleted all of the events in the calendar.

What remains in the calendar are six unread events. I have done
everything that I can possibly think of (as well as ideas that I've
found through online research), to attempt to look at those events.
Attempted solutions include:

* Right-clicking on the Calendar in the folders list and choosing "Mark
All As Read" does not make them disappear and be 'read.'

* I have done views (and searches) that supposedly would only show
unread items. No items are shown.

* I looked at the calendar using the view By Category. No items are
shown.

* I did a repair on the Outlook.PST file that is on my computer with the
Inbox Repair Tool. No change.

* I did a search for any event within an extremely large timespan (I
think I tried from the year 1700 to the year 2099). No items are shown.

* I tried exporting the calendar into a file to see if I could find any
information on these mystery records. The exported text file was empty
aside from the subject headers.

* Advanced Find: created on or after 01/01/1980. Nothing.

* Advanced Find: size in store is at least 0 kilobytes, run on
everything in my Outlook. No Calendar items were shown. (The Calendar
itself just uses eight kilobytes, evidently.)

* Advanced Find: "In Folder" contains "Calendar". Nothing.

Nothing, and I mean absolutely nothing, seems to be showing these items,
or enables me to get to them.

There is one item of note. I chose the "Mailbox Cleanup" item off the
'Tools' menu in Outlook, and asked it to show me anything older than one
day old. It DID display a blank, *read* Calendar item. However,
zapping it and then emptying the trash did not reduce the 'unread' items
next to the Calendar by any amount.

I spoke with the technical support person at our firm, who advised me
that while he would try to help me when he could, it would be lower in
priority for him, and that as my employer pays him per time expended, he
was not sure if the firm would want to him to invest a great deal of
time (and thus a more significant amount of money) simply to get rid of
these persistent unread items.

He did say that if it becomes too time-consuming a problem, I may just
have to live with it, as it doesn't affect daily usage. I told him that
I'd try as hard as I could to get a technical answer on my own, which I
could either implement myself or present to him. Even if I don't have
the access, say, to implement a particular suggestion, I can then
present any suggestions you may have to him.

I would very, very much appreciate any assistance out there. Although
this obviously is not a crippling problem, it is an extremely annoying
one in how obstinate it has evidently become.

Thanks in advance for your assistance and time.

Then try performing an ADVANCED SEARCH
or FIND on the Calendar Folder. Search for any type of
Outlook form. If one pops up delete it from the
Advanced Find window.

I once found a NOTE type of form that was not viewable
in my calendar but still held appointment information that
prevented me from booking at that time. I used the method
described above to remove it.

I will try that, Ms. Peterson, on Monday, but I'm suspicious that it
won't work. Most of the other searches I had done were for any Outlook
item, not just for a calendar item. And wouldn't the Size in Store test
described have caught that?
