My laptop crashed while playing a music/video clip frm
internet over my broadband connection. I run windows xp
home edition.

I am unable to get back to desktop in windows xp. while
rebooting, I get message "while initialising device
SHELL.... cannot find or load required file
KRNL386.EXE.System halted"

Can anyone offer advice how to correct/fix this please?

Accessing via "safe mode", the laptop seems to enter
desktop on previous Windows Millenium edition.....?? Is
this any help. Thanks someone in anticipation.

load your XP CD and hold the shift key to prevent the auto
run.
Go to start/search and type KRNL386.EXE in the 'look for
documents' box and look in the drive where your XP CD is
in.
Once found...copy it and paste it to C:\WINDOWS\System32
If it already exists..overwrite it!
Remove CD and restart.
