I have a computer with Windows XP installed for quite a
while and another computer on which I installed Windows
2000 just a few days ago. For some reason I couldn't yet
form a working workgroup network. The Windows XP computer
doesn't display the other computer on the network
neighborhoud. The Windows 2000 computer display's the
WinXP computer in the network neighborhoud. I couldn't
configure the Internet Sharing between them (The Windows
XP computer is the one connected to the internet).
Please, anyone, Help!!!

I did it - it works !!!!!!!!!!!!
Create a new folder, under My Computer, on Xp and give it
all the share properties - this will help you trouble
shoot. I also shared the C volume on XP.
There are lots of myths going around about networking
mixed OS's. Let me dispell some of them to same you some
grief>
you CAN use the XP firewall if you are connecting to
the internet via modem. You need to, just as M$ says.
you DON'T need to assign static Ip's - go "automatic".
the 'Shared Documents" folder in XP is something the
boys in Tacoma did to mess with our heads; it is NOT FOR
SHARING DOCUMENTS over a network. Create you own folder
to get started, as I suggested. Certain other folders in
XP cannot be shared - by design of the MS whiz kids.
Mine works REGARDLESS of the user names (dont have to
be identical on each machine)
the network wizard is NOT a wizard - do it yourself
W2K is EASY; XP is a bitch
Write me if you still need any help - remember I have one
working and it has MANY advantages!

Configure XP as an Interest Connection Sharing host, as shown here:

Windows XP Internet Connection Sharing

Configure Windows 2000 as an ICS client as shown here:

ICS for Win2000 - Client Setup

It isn't strictly necessary, but it will make networking a little
easier if you set 2000's workgroup name to MSHOME to match XP.

Disable and un-install all firewall programs on both computers while
troubleshooting the network.
