I received a file which turned out to be virus-infected.
Norton deleted the file after doing a complete system
scan. However, now when I log on I get the following error
message: "Cannot find the 'C:WINNT\system32\System32.exe'
(or one of its components). Make sure the path and
filename are correct and that all required libraries are
available."

After I click "OK", the message goes away and my system
seems to work fine. But it's kind of annoying getting that
error all the time.

Any help is truly appreciated.

There's no such legitimate file in W2k. The message you're seeing is due
to an incompletely removed virus. Not all virus removers remove all
traces of each virus, including all files they may have placed on the
system. I'd visit an AV site for more info, especially if you remember
the name of the infecting virus.

Googling for "system32.exe" will help you with specific solutions.

And I hope you now have a good AV program installed, and are keeping it
up to date -- every day. :-)

i would delete it fromt he registry as well. Do a search for system32.exe in the registry

That will prevent it from trying to load at bootup
