Using IE6 SP1. Anytime I try to use a site that tracks what you buy by
redirecting you to the store's site (fundraiser for my daughter's school) I
get a server not found, page not found or dns error. I've tried clicking on
the "detect network settings" and it just hangs for a very long time before
it comes back to same error. I'm am getting the same thing on my work (XP)
system and my home (2000) system. My Mac on the same ISP has no issue. My
boss's (XP) system has no issue. I have copied his settings in the advanced
tab. AdAware and SpyBot run on both. At home, virus/firewall software
completely turned off with same results. "Meta Refresh" set to enable in
security tab. Not sure what else to attempt or what even this type of site
is doing other than redirect, to do a better search on the problem.
thanks

The problem is that this is an ambiguous diagnostic
which essentially only tells you that there was a problem
loading the page. Try simulating the problem using
diagnostics which will give you clues about where the
problem area is.

First make sure that nslookup can find that site.
Then (which protocol? assuming HTTP?) use telnet 80
to check that there is an open port at that site.
(The screen will clear if the port is detected.)
Being unsuccessful at doing either would explain your symptom.

If you know the IP address you can avoid a problem with your DNS
by testing with it instead. Then, if telnet detects an open port 80
with it you could add a temporary entry into your HOSTS file to provide
that lookup.

Etc.

Good luck
