cannot find server or DNS error

After installing XP SP2, web browsing worked...for a
while...then went to a condition where cannot connect to
web sites...

Restored system to previous state and browser works. Re-
installed SP2...same symptom...after a while.

Other conditions:
1. Secure web site works OK (earthlink webmail)
2. Can't ping servers
3. same settings on another computer using XP
4. E-mail works OK

What's going on?

I already disabled XP firewall. I use ZoneAlarm, and
it worked fine until this anomaly.
