Cannot find Product Key

I recently bought a new computer and want to install my VB.net 2003, but I
cannot seem to find my product key anymore. Yes I have legal version with all
CDs and blue box with all the information posters, but none of these papers
or even the paper CD wrappings seem to contain the product key. I wonder if
anyone can tell me if I am looking at the wrong place or if I truly lost it?
And if I indeed lost it, is there a way to gain it again from Microsoft as I
would really like to start programming again.

Thanks!

I'm afraid I have nothing to help you with your lost key.

Unless it helps that on my copy of 2003 ( when I was using it) the serial
number was on a sticker on the cd sized cardboard box used to hold the CDs.

Depending on what you want to program (Hobby vs Work vs Enterprise Application)
and what you mean by "I would really like to start programming again" there
might be an alternative solution.

MS have released version 2005 since 2003 and this version is also available
in some "Express" flavours.

These versions were at one point (and may still be ) free of charge. The
limitations tended to be around their ability to access databases and abilities
to use addins.

Just search for "C# Express Edition" or "VB.Net Express Edition" and you
should find a potentially free product that would certainly do for any hobby
work.

Just a thought.

VB 2005 Expesss edition is a free download -
http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/express/vb/
It comes with the IDE
2003 is old stuff anyway

Express versions can access databases just fine - but they lack some of the
fancy helper tools in VS.NET.

Here is a comparison of all the versions of VS.NET:

As you see, the Express versions have most of the required features -
should be fine for hobby programming :-)

You have authentic CDs, so just ask for a face to face with a local
Microsoft rep (& not the computer salesman who is just gunning for an extra
sale at the expense of Microsoft's reputation), show her/him the CDs,
explain the problem and I'm sure they will be more than reasonable. When a
CD burner melted my VB6 MSDN CD1, Microsoft were more than helpful...
