Cannot find pictures

About a year ago, I transferred a bunch of digital pictures that I took in
Europe from my camera to my computer. I worked on them--titles, order,
etc.--and set them aside. Now, I can't find them. I've tried every search
method I can think of to no avail (*.jpg, jpeg, pictures, Europe) I'm afraid
I saved some other pictures over them (replace existing file?).
Two questions:
1) Can anyone think of another metheod to find them?
2) If I did replace them with a file of the same name, is there any way to
retreive them?

IF you over-wrote the data...your original images would be gone...
but it's not likely you would have over-written them as digital cameras
generally number the data sequentially.
Maybe you saved them in a format other than .jpg ?

Why not have a look at the software you used and see how it saves data by
default
 
How do you find that default information? I looked through the software and
it isn't obvious--at least to me.
 
Bobm0001, try the old way, using Dos command 'Dir'. This still works.
A quick step-by-step guide:
-Open Command Prompt, under All Programs | Accessories
-Type 'C:' (without the quotes) to go to the C drive. Hit the Enter
key
-Type 'cd \' (without the quotes) to change the directory. Hit Enter.
-Type 'Dir *.j*/s' (without the quotes) to perform the search of .j*
(.jpg, jpeg, etc) image files with subfolders option. Hit Enter.
o if you remember any file names, feel free to use that (or a
portion of that with wildcards '*') as well
-Wait until you see a summary stating 'total files listed', etc...
