cannot find local user profile

G

Greg

my family shares a home computer. my son deleted some
files, thinking he was cleaning up some game demo
downloads, and now when the machine boots the following
message appears: "cannot find local user profile. using
temporary profile. any changes made to this profile will
not be saved."

It appears as if the only profile on the machine is that
of "Owner", no "Guests" or other profiles are
established...

How do I restore my old profile information?

thanks!

You should be able to boot to safe mode and log on as the admnistrator. To
do this, tap F8 when computer is starting and choose safe mode from the
list.
From this profile, you should be able to go to windows explorer and view
your information. Then go to the user accounts in the control panel and
make a new user.
Boot back to normal mode and transfer your information from the corrupted
user to the new one you just made.
