Cannot find Domain Controller

I have some machines that get the "No domain controller
can be found to validate your password." error when trying
to log on to the domain. This is not an everyday
occurance. But I will have one or two pcs do this a
week. Usually all I have to do, is a winipcfg or ipconfig
to release and renew the ip address, then reboot and it
will take care of the problem.

Does anyone have any suggestions.

What OS on the clients? Does the ipconfig/all show that everything is
pointing to the server-IP?

Next time it happens, run netdiag on that machine looking for any failed
tests. It may be a dns issue that commonly is caused by also having and ISP
dns server listed in the tcp/ip properties of a domain member computer. If
the Active Directory dns server does not respond quick enough then the
domain machine resorts to name query for an ISP dns server if it is further
down the list and those type of problems will occur. --- Steve

Netdiag will also work on XP. For downlevel operating systems you will have
to rely on pinging domain controller by ip/name and also wins server. It
sounds like you have a random problem with just a few machines and may be
the result of network latency of some sort. --- Steve

Got WINS installed on the server? It's needed by W9x and ME. Got options 044
and 046 (0x8) set in DHCP-server, Scope options?
