Cannot find a Partition for Restore

I have a HP Home Pavillion with Windows 5.1 and the
recent 6.1 service pack. I was having numerous error
messages that internet explorer was recovering from
serious errors. When I rebooted I also got a message
saying one of the printer ports was not responding. It
said Imapi cd burning was stopped in the detailed message.

I tried to restore to an earlier date but it didn't fix
the problem. I then tried to restore once again to the
beginning of December when in the middle of the restore
the computer crashed once again.

Now I tried the F8 function but only received a blue
screen after any and all of the choices. I read the book
and then tried F10. When it was working it did not give
me a choice of Non Destructive restore in the first
place. Then when I tried the system restore it tried and
then came back with the message that my partition was not
found and shut down.

My main problem is all the data that I didn't get a
chance to back up once these problems started. I only
was able to save a couple of files. I really need these
files. My local computer store charges 150. just to
analyze any problems. I did find 4 disks that say
Windows xp recovery for Home edition and inserted those.
When I rebooted nothing at all happened. I also have a
lap top so those disks may belong to the lap top. I just
don't know, it doesn't say.

I think what I'm asking is if there's any further choices
for me to try or is this computer just dead and all my
data lost. What should I do?

Try the disks in your Laptop Jeanette.

You really need to upgrade into the new systems.
You can buy a new Computer today for less than 1/4 the price you paid for
your old one.

And as you found out, Backup, Backup, Backup.

I'm going to give it to you straight, Jeanette: You're in over your head.
It's time to pay someone to help you out. Do it now before you dig yourself
in deeper. Here's something else you don't want to hear: You need to invest
the time to learn how to use your computer wisely, so you won't get yourself
into this jam again. You can hate me now (my mother-in-law could use some
company), but in 6 months you'll thank me, and in another 6 months you'll be
answering questions here instead of asking them.

i would ask the store to do a restore for you, and if you're lucky you may
recover your stuff.
then take the computer away, back up all your stuff and buy your own copy of
windows xp (it's only about £55-00 OEM).

reformat your hard drive and install your own copy of xp. otherwise you are
always at the mercy of the supplier every time something goes wrong.
