I am trying to send out faxes originated in a word document (.doc), and I am
using the the fax driver that comes with the Microsoft XP package (home
edition). I have set up the driver and I am attempting to send the fax using
my cable modem connection yet I get a "no dial tone" error. What can I do to
send these faxed through the cable modem? And assistance would be greatly
appreciated. Thanks.

You appear to be among the those who do not realize that faxing is a
function that can only use analog phone lines and analog fax modems.
Accordingly, no fax software will function with cable modems.
If you have no analog modem or phone line, you will need to use a fee based
Internet Fax Service. Several are listed here: http://www.savetz.com/fax/

So all that I need to do is plug in an analog line and the fax will go
through? Should I then unplug my cable modem? Can I have both of these
lines plugged in at the same time? Do I need to have an anolog internet
service for thise feature? I thank you in advance for any information anyone
could provide.

All you need to do is plug in an analog fax modem to an analog phone line.
The fax software will configure itself to use it. It will not interfere with
your cable modem. The two are unrelated.
Faxing uses a simple phone call--no service involved. The only charge will
be from the phone company if your fax call is long distance.
