6 computers in a network.... XP/2000/98 systems, been running fine for
over a year... no problems.

Added 2 new systems, one XP Home SP2 and one XP Pro SP2.
These two new computers "see" each other fine.
Neither can see the original 6 computers NOR can any of the original 6
see the two new ones.
Workgroups are all the same for all 8.

Ideas ?
Regards,
Frank

Network topology? What connects the PCs to each other? To the Internet?

All PC's are connected to a 20 port switch.
Switch to the Router - all Internet connections work fine.

Plus, I forgot this earlier...
If I PING a specific IP Address of one of the "invisible computers" I
get a valid Response.

Question the early 6 computers - wasn't Workgroup name CASE Sensitive at
that time? Maybe that I only think that the Workgroup name is "ADMIN"
on all systems. Just thinking out loud.

Do the two new computers have any firewall software installed? If so, does
disabling it (if it's the Windows XP firewall) or uninstalling it (most
third-party firewalls do NOT disable correctly, but must be uninstalled)
solve the problem?

Firewalls turned off when there was no "connection"
When off, no change, non of the original 6 showed up as members of the
workgroup.

Have we checked the new PCs to make sure they have IP addresses in the same
range as the existing PCs? How about comparing IPCONFIG /ALL output between
a working PC and a non-working PC?

Remember, I can Ping each computer and get a valid response.
So, to me "everybody" is on the network....
So why does Windows not see them?

Being able to ping is important but is not the crux of the question. On my
work network I can ping servers in the Downtown network via WAN that I can't
see when browsing the network.
