Cannot Execute any progams

Windows XP loads fine but when you try to run any program whether it be a
program installed like word or try to run explorer, control panel, etc.
Nothing happens. I have run a virus scan using emergency scan disks from
floppies and no viruses found. I also did a repair from the recovery console
and still no luck. I was able to get into and do a system restore from a
couple of days back and still no luck. I know I probably should just format
hard drive and start from scratch but was wondering if there is anything
else I could do before doing that? Thanks.
 
I have the very same problem. Could it be caused by the combination of programs we are using? I am using AOL 9.0, which I have been told (by AOL technical assistance) sometimes causes problems with XP.
 
since you snipped off the original message I am not quite sure of the
question.

However there is a new virus out that blocks .exe files from running.
the solution is to rename a file to .com and then you can stop the virus
from running!

Aol 9 has problems with ME should work fine with XP since it was designed
for it!
