When I try to erase a new Verbatim DVD that has been burned only once or
just a few times:
[DVD+RW] MKM-A02-00
[DVD-RW] MCC 01RW4X
Plextools Professional or another burning software says:
037303 MEDIUM ERROR: POWER CALIBRATION FAILED
I think the recorder is trying to erase the pre-embossed
lead-in on -RW disks, and that's why it fails.
This is a new -RW disk burned only once on the same
recorder:
Drive Info ID:0 PLEXTOR DVDR PX-760A V1.06 (#292445)
Test Settings Read Speed: 2X CLV
Test Interval Length: High Accuracy
Test Result Disc Info: FC/6 i386 DVD DVD-RW, 3361 MB (FC/6 i386 DVD)
MCC 01RW4X
Avg Max Total
PIE 1.71 12 22980
POE 0.07 313 7816
POF - - 0
Test Duration 0:21:10
Now I can no longer burn to that disk (same error code).
Write-transfer rate Test however starts 4.07x and finishes without any
problems
in simulation mode, but fails if no simulation.
I believe that the disk is in perfect condition.
QUESTIONS:
~ could it be some bug in the firmware?
~ What should I do?
I already replaced a lot of plextor recorders (the current one is number 4).
I'm totally borred from problems!
I had this same problem with my old PX-760A which failed a few month after
(lived 5 months total) and was replaced for this one. Before that, I also
had the same
problem with PX716A which also failed a few months after (lived 12 months
total).
My current recorder is about 5 months old and so far makes perfect quality
recordings
on Plextor DVD+R16x disks. I've burned about 15 DVDs and 15 CDs total.
Example of a disk burned at 16x:
Drive Info ID:0 PLEXTOR DVDR PX-760A V1.05 (#254016)
Test Settings Read Speed: 5-12X CAV
Test Interval Length: High Accuracy
Test Result Disc Info: 2006-XI-27MOV36 DVD-ROM, 4447 MB (2006-XI-27MOV36)
Avg Max Total
PIE 0.83 9 14822
POE 0.08 170 10715
POF - - 0
Test Duration 0:28:02
However the recorder performs bad with Verbatim DVD-R8x (CMC MAG AE1) -
level of PIE quickly rising about 100 to 150 oward the end of the disk.
and Verbatim DVD-R16x media (MCC 03RG20) - level of PIE starts about 120
and falls to 20 in the end of the disk.
