Cannot erase and format harddrive

I load the windows install cd and run the setup. When I
get to the part where it gives me the option of deleting
partitions, C: is the only available partition. It
says "press enter to install on this partition" or "press
D to delete partition" I press D and nothing happens.

This should be working, but if it is not boot in with 98

boot disk and run fdisk
 
I am at this same place in trying to re-install Win2000
Pro. My concern is the partition section is very large
and the unpartition section small. When I select the
partitioned the statement comes up that I will be loosing
programing and do I really want to do this. Should I
proceed?
