I have seen some reports about Adaptec Take 2 software causing this.Do you
have that installed?
Usually this type of error is when a driver, service, or app is preventing
hibernation from taking place. Is there an associated event ID?
Thanks,

You may use DriverQuery tool to list out all the device drivers installed in
your system.
http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/driverquery.mspx
-or-
Use "LoadOrder" to view/copy the device driver list:

Feedback from Lukas:
" I had a dvd simulation application installed and I uninstalled it and it
worked. Maybe it had something to do with adaptec...no matter what, it
was that what prevented system from enabling hibernation. "
