Cannot Display These Sites Even After Doing Flash Fixes

I cannot get the following sites to perform in either IE 6 or Firefox,
even after doing all of the recommended fixes:

1) http://www.rr.com/flash/index.cfm
===> Supposed to be Road Runner's home page. Just lots of blue
and nothing else.

2) http://www.fordvehicles.com
===> Just get a menu banner at the top of the page.

3) http://www.gypsumracing.com
===> In the center of the screen, at the very top above the 42 and 91
race cars is supposed to be a site menu. All I see is blank
white space.

I've done everything that most experts have suggested: disabled Norton
Antivirus and Personal Firewall; made sure all security settings
regarding Active-X set to "enable"; cleared browser cache files and Java
files; installed fix per Microsoft KB 917425 (seemed odd that I would
have to also add two registry entries); backed off all Microsoft
downloads since April 2006; went to Adobe site and used their tool to
removed Flash Player, then used their site to install the latest version
of the player.

This has happened to two computers in our house, and no files were
shared between the two. The only common feature is doing what the
experts have always said to do: willingly take all Microsoft updates
when they are made available in order to make sure our machines are
protected. Well, so far I've p***ed away a lot of my valuable free time
trying to make work what the so-called experts managed to screw up.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks, but I just ran that program and it didn't make a difference.

Next idea? <g>

Hi Mjm,
How do you connect to the Internet?.
Try Flush the DNS by typying the command in the RUN command:
ipconfig /flushdns Press OK.
TRy to Disable the Firefox Add-Ons by going to IE Properties and Click on
Programs Tab and Locate the Button labled Manage Add-Ons and Disable all
Non-Ms iE Add-Ons and Reboot.
Then try and see if you will be able to Access these website, if all Gone to
plan Renable the Add-Ons One-By-One and see the Offending one and leave it
Disable.
Hope this helps
Please write back with your findings

Hi,
Are you sure that the Norton firewall was disabled? The fact that both
browsers were affected points to a program like a firewall or other
third-party security program. Running a router? Does it have a firewall?

The compatability patch- http://support.microsoft.com/kb/917425 is probably
not a factor.

909889- ActiveX controls may not load as expected...
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/909889
was an issue months ago (Nov 2005) It shouldn't be a problem now.

Is a third-party program blocking cookies?

In this article
818018- How to troubleshoot problems connecting to Windows Update [ActiveX]:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=818018
These sections may be helpful:
* Reset Internet zone security
* Add the Windows Update Web site and the Microsoft Update Web site to the
list of trusted sites (obviously, substitute http://www.fordvehicles.com/
etc for http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/)
* Verify that your Internet Explorer settings are correctly configured
* Verify that the date and time are set correctly (affects cookies)
* Register DLLs

[XP SP2] From IE> Tools> Manage add-ons. Disable add-ons to see if one of
them is the culprit.
[Non SP2] Internet Options> Advanced> uncheck "Enable third-party browser
extensions." If either of these helps, you still need to find the
troublesome program, BHO or add-on.

Toolbar Cop from http://www.mvps.org/sramesh2k/Toolkit.htm can help identify
and remove add-ons, BHOs, etc.

Try this test *very* briefly because you'll be running with security
programs shutdown...
Startup in Safe Mode with Networking.
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=315222 If the problem goes
away, a program that didn't load in Safe Mode is causing it.

Hope this helps,
Don
