Cannot display an image, and shdoclc.dll

J

Jimmy Hsu

On some sites, I see a small rectangle box that says "This page cannot be
displayed" , side by side with other images & text. Right clicking on the
box, & then Properties, I see the box's URL as:
res://C:\WINDOWS\system32\shdoclc.dll/pagerror.gif

I googled and found that shdoclc.dll refers to Shell Document Object &
Control Library which stores menus, dialog boxes, etc. I also found a
site (http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?shdoclc) that offers
downloads for an updated
shdoclc. I downloaded that file but dare not installed it, as I was told
not to mess around with System level files.

Grateful for your advice if there are less invasive surgery to resolve this
problem. Many thks

Hi Jimmy :)

Try clearing the IE cache. go to Tools>Internet Options>General tab>
Delete files (and delete offline content.)

and...

A third-party is probably blocking that image/ad- maybe a HOSTS file. See:
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm If not a HOSTS file, check the
settings of any other security, privacy, ad-blocking programs that are
running.

also, Zone Alarm Pro can block Images in IE

1. Go into IE>Tools>Internet Options>Security>Custom level>reset custom
level to Medium or Low
2. Go into IE>Tools>Internet Options>Privacy>set the slider to Medium or Low
3. Go to this site and read on adjusting the Privacy settings in ZA. It will
explain how to customize on a per site basis.

Kerio Personal Firewall and any other anti-advertisement software you have
on your system will also do this.
