cannot detect camera

Well such a fine Ixus 50 and allthat software, - yet my winxphome dont seem
to consider Cannon much.
What must I do to see and aquire my photos in the Canon software.

That would most likely be a function of your Canon software setup.

See your manual for how-to's.

Personally, I would forget about the
Canon software. Purchase a USB SD
Memory Card reader and download
from there.

The card reader should be seen as a
Removable Disk and you just drag/drop
or copy/paste the files from there to a
folder on your hard drive.

I do this with my Canon S2IS and it's
quick and painless.

This advice applies to all cameras by all makers. Why can't they make
software that works?

because camera makers must spend
money to (re)write their twain drivers and
then supply them for free.

whereas, they can sell a new product whenever
the o.s. is upgraded by the customer...

so a genius came up with a generic card
reader that accomadates 99% of the camera cards
worldwide and microsoft was generous to create'
a driver for generic card readers
