In spite of having the program installed by a professional,
I can't access any of the update info because I get the
error message "warning...could not connect to the
internet". I use Mozilla Firefox instead of Internet
Explorer. Already tried uninstalling/reinstalling with no
change in the problem. Any ideas/suggestions??? Thanks!

You mean updating MSAS? I think it requires IE being the default Browser for
automatic updates. But have you not tried manually accessing the updates?
File > Check for Updates?

I keep getting the same error when I try to update
spyware definitions on Microsoft Antispyware (Beta). The
address you have given is the general Microsoft udtaes
address erather than spyware definitions. Any other ideas?

The address i gave was because i thought they meant they
cannot get to the Microsoft updates page,I didnt realise
they meant the update on MS antispy.Plus dont use firefox
so wasnt aware it redirects addresses, and to be honest i
dont use MS antispy either so cannot be much help on this
one,In my view there's alot of better programs about but
i appreciate you want to use this so hopefully Plun or
some of the MVP's can advise you more.

This must be bug, there are several reports
about this among users.

Is this dial up users and/or users with proxies ?

Must be tracked in some way.

I'm having the same problem. One system on my network
installed and updates as designed. Other system keeps
posting error could not connect to internet (even though
IE is connected, browser works fine and all other
programs that access the internet work fine). I've seen
lots of posts on this same topic - no resolutions. When
will the developers address this problem?

Found some information, might be of help, might not be:
If automatic updates does not work

There are some situations where the automatic update feature will not work.
AutoUpdater checks for and downloads available updates through port 80,
which is also the port for regular HTTP Internet traffic. Because of the
design of AutoUpdater, it should be able to connect to the update servers
over a wide range of network configurations. Most software- and
hardware-based firewalls and proxy servers should not prevent AutoUpdater
from functioning normally. However, some situations will prevent automatic
updates from occurring. For example, if you have an ISDN router that is set
to connect automatically to your Internet service provider (ISP),
AutoUpdater will cause many connections to occur, with possible connection
and phone charges for each connection. If this is a problem, you can set
your ISDN router to not connect automatically to the ISP or you can disable
AutoUpdater. If you do not enable AutoUpdater, you can keep Microsoft
AntiSpyware up-to-date by using the manual update service. For more
information, see Manual Updates.

We get the same message even though we are already
connected to the internet. Have you had any suggestions
to solve the problem?

When I try to update this AntiSpyware program
using "File" then clicking on "check for updates," I get
an error message that says "Updates Failed. Autoupdater
could not detect an internet connection." Resetting the
Winsock(s) didn't help. I am, by the way, connected to
the internet via cable modem - which is always "on"
unless I disable the connection. I tried manually
updating AntiSpyware with the internet connected prior to
my windows logon - and I also tried to update the program
after establishing a network connection once I running
WinXP. Now, however, after all this fiddling around
trying to manually update this program - and never having
any luck... I noticed that I am actually running the
latest UPDATED version of AntiSpywareBeta! It appears to
me that autoupdate works just as it should... my updates
were installed earlier today (well, yesterday 3/5) at
3:30PM! The manual updates either don't work in this
version of AntiSpyware, or they give an inappropriate
error message if already updated. ~~ssg~~
