Cannot delete registry values

WinNT4 (SP6a)

PC had a virus a few weeks ago, but I only deleted the virus files; never
bothered to try to clean up the registry.

Now I cannot completely uninstall my Microsoft Wheelmouse software; there
are 2 registry entries still left. For example, even after I uncheck
regedt's Options > Read Only Mode I get
"Registry Editor could not delete the value entry. The key currently
selected does not give you access to delete a value entry." when I try to
delete the key named POINTER found in
HKLM/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Run

Regedit also will not allow me to delete that registry value.
"Unable to delete all specified values."

I think I've corrected this problem before (after being infected with a
virus), but I forgot how to fix it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry about the alarm. The registry permissions for that subkey had somehow
changed; all users were Read. So I changed Administrator's permission to
Full control.

Didn't originally suspect that because I never got a popup stating something
to the effect.
"You do not have permission..." or "Access to this key denied..."
