Keith

I get a message when trying to delete a file on my
harddrive saying: "Cannot delete xxxxx.xxx: The file or
directory is corrupted and unreadable".

What can I do to delete this file?

Boot into Safe Mode and try to delete the file.

Thanks for the reply:
Tried both methods and still no luck.
I still get the same message.

Hi Keith,

Have you tried this from MVP Kelly yet?

I have also had some situations where it was necessary to remove the parent
directory using the RD command from a cmd prompt. Sometimes helps to run
chkdsk on the drive first.

Thanks Rick, but no luck. I've tried CHKDSK many times
already, without any success. The RD /s method was un-
successful has well. This is a very stubborn video file.
filename: VTS_01_1.VOB All other files in that directory
deleted without a problem, exept for this one.

I appreciate everyones help, thanks.

Hi,

Open the media player, see if that file is listed in the playlist. If so,
remove it, then close the media player and retry deleting it.

Hello Rick,
That video is not listed in Media Player's playlist or on
PowerDVD's.
I guess it won't hurt to let the file stay on my
harddrive. Just thought there would be an easy way to
get rid of it.

Thanks again.
