I have windows xp along with outlook express 6 for e-
mails. When I'm done reading a message and delete it, it
still stays in the In-box. Please help as I'm lost and
the In-box is filling quickly.
First, create your own folders for archiving mail. Default OE folders
become corrupted when used for storage.
If you have any mail in the Inbox you want to save, move them to
another folder.
Tools>Options>Maintenance>Store folder will reveal the location
of your Outlook Express files. You can copy the location and
paste it into Start>Run and click OK to open the folder, or navigate
to it in Windows Explorer.
In WindowsXP, the OE user files (DBX and WAB) are by default
marked as hidden. To view these files in Explorer, you must enable
Show Hidden Files and Folders under Start>Control Panel>Folder
Options>View.
With OE closed, follow the path to the DBX file for the folder in
question {Inbox.dbx} and delete it. A new one will be created
automatically
when you open OE.
Follow up by compacting your folders manually while working
*offline*.
File>Work Offline (or double click Working Online in the Status Bar).
File>Folder>Compact all folders.
In Tools>Options>Maintenance: Uncheck Compact messages in background
and leave it unchecked.
