I have a printer that was set up and shared as "jan". I
had to delete this printer, then set up another printer
named "jan" again instead of just reconfiguring it.

However, now I cannot see the printer "jan" at all in the
printers menu, I can browse the network and see the share,
but when clicked on it is not connected to anything and
gives the standard error messages. I could see the ports
under the server properties tag, and deleted anything that
had "jan" in the name, however every time i try to create
a new printer with that name i am blocked because the
shared name is already in use.

How do you delete this shared resource name so it can be
recreated???

Remember i cannot "see" it nearly anywhere except for the
network browser, and still cannot connect.

There is an entry in the server service holding this name.

regedit
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\lanmanserver\Shares

You will see jan in the list of shares. Delete the jan key and reboot.
Then add the printer
