I downloaded and unzipped this - UltimateFormMail (a php script) - but
as it was not quite what I was after, I deleted it. Only it didn't go.
I've narrowed it down to a folder called 'antispoof' within the main folder.
I cannot access it - it's denied.
I cannot delete it - that too is denied.
The MS knowledge base mentions file permissions, but I can't get the
syntax of CACLS right.

It's a tiny file, and it's not like I need the space, but it's the
*principle* - my disc, I get to choose what lives on it :)

Can anyone recommend a program which will remove this ?

Many thnks !

BCWipe [http://www.jetico.com/index.htm#/bcwipe.htm] used to delete
files for me regardless of if it was being used by Windows. That might work.

Can you get into DOS with your operating system?
You could delete it from there.

Thanks for all the responses ...

Just tried BCWipe, and it tells me that a file (the name of which is
garbage (control chars?)) does not exist within the 'antispoof' folder,
and there fore it is not deleting it.
So it won't let me delete the folder, because I want to delete something
which does not exist, yet enough of it exists for it to be seen ..... odd.
I tried safe mode too with no joy.
Renaming does nothing, rebooting then trying to delete does nothing.

I guess it was a faulty zip.

Oh well ... thanks anyway :)

hehe, I tried. Funny that I ran into you here.

Get an ftp program and look under chmod/properties and get full acces to
your file and then delete it.
Another idea is to get knoppix and then delete it.

getting serious (work through this mskb article):

[...] del "\\?\c:\path_to_problem_file"

all else fails, roll up your sleaves (ref = last part of the article):

Boot to DOS and delete it using a wildcard (*) so you don't have to type
the weird characters. Be careful you delete more thna you wanted to
delete though

Have you tried looking at the file (and possibly changing all the characters
to zero) in a hex editor? If it is "read only" you may have to change this
attribute first. Try FRHED at:

You might not need a program to do this. A lot depends on which
OS you are running. Win9x and Win2K/XP treat folders a little
differently.

Try to drill down and rename the smallest file inside the
folder; possibly by adding a "_"to the end, e.g., *.exe to
*.exe_ -- then see if Windows will let you Shift+Delete it.

Also you can try to install this litte freebie:

http://www.gibinsoft.net/gipoutils/

It's called "MoveOnBoot" and you have to scroll down to the Old
Version (Freeware) area. It's tiny, and easy, and when you
reboot it will get rid of most of these type things. Sometimes,
you have to first rename, then invoke MoveOnBoot, (select
"delete") then reboot... like that. Sometimes you have to do it
a couple of times, from the inside-est file out to the folder.
Good luck!

http://www.gibinsoft.net/gipoutils/bin/moveonb.exe

And it works just fine even though it's not supported any longer
- it's one of those tiny 'gotta have's.'

I had a similar problem quite awhile back. The program was similar to
BcWipe. I was trying it out and the lights flickered (no UPS). It left
1.1 gigs of garbage with illegal filenames. The wildcard delete did
not work, nothing that I tried did.

After a couple of months I threw in the towel and reformatted to
regain the space. I tried everything I could think of, but system
commands would not phase the illegally named subdirectories and files.

I didn't try changing the names with a hex editor. There were
thousands in my case. It might just work in this case of a small file
though.
