Hi,

I am local admin on my machine, everything worked fine,
until recenty I get strange things:
I uploaded the latest Norton Antivirus virusupadte, and
scanned my computer. Now I have lost all my network
connections, and I cannot create new ones.
If I try this, Windows claims the name is not legal (test,
Zon etc.) and I should choose another name. No matter what
I try, I cannot save the new connection.

another problem is getting things out of outlook: this is
quite strange too:
trying to do "save as" results in the file not beeing
saved.
The errormessage I get is cannot sve URL file.

Any suggestions?

Greetings,

Wl

I posted a question about problems with win2000.
The symptoms where that I could not create network
connections, and I am unable to save attachements from
outlook to my local disk.
I am local admin on this system.
The problem was NOT network related, nor can I find
anything that relates to this problem.

I want to know why my post was removed.
Support from microsoft is allready very bad to say the
least, but luckily I do naot have to much problems I
cannot solve myself.

Now I have a problem the problem description is deleted
without warning, and my chance of receiving any help is
now reduced to 0. O what a joy to have "The power" :(

Why?????

unable to create network connections could be anything such as
incorrectly setup network/network card/network cabling/software
.... failed components etc etc you'd need to be far more specific.
There is a microsoft.public.win2000.networking group

The Outlook Express problem is easy .. (although there is an OE
specific newsgroup at
microsoft.public.win2000.inetexplorer.ie6_outlookexpress)

Tools
Options
Security tab
uintick "Do not allow attachments to be opened ..... " etc

It looks like a right problem, both things happened at
once!!
I COULD save attachements!!
I lost all my networkconnections (18!), and cannot create
new ones to start a dialin session.

IMO it has a "look" of w2k seeing me as another person
than the original one (although my desktop is still the
same, non original, personal; shortcuts etc.)

I also can see only one profile.

However when creating a new network connection it keeps on
claiming that the name is a wrong one, en therefore I
cannot save.
No matter what I use as a name, it keeps on claiming wrong
name (I used following 15 names to try (seperated by
comma's) a, ab, abcd, my, network connection, dialin zon,
serv, isp, phone, isp 020, internet mobile, mobile
internet, test, gsm data, connection to 0582675668) none
of the names, although valid are accepted.

In outlook, I could save my attachements, however
everytime I try it now, it clams an invalid URL. File
although is good, and can be forwarded, extracted from
forwarded mail throug webmail interface. Program then runs
OK. The same wit *.zip, *.doc, *.xls, *.xxx (beeing
renamed exe file). everytime I cannot save because of an
invalid URL (according to OUTLOOK).

It looks like the disk connot be accessed, however I can
create, open, modify and save files to every location I
want, as long as I use other applications like notepad,
ultraedit etc.
