I have been unable to access my shared files from my home's XP machines to my
Vista Ultimate machine. On the Vista machine, I have enabled the guest
account, enabled all of the file sharing, enabled sharing to "everyone,"
"Guest," and anything else I could find, and made sure sharing was enabled on
the folders I wanted shared. Password protection is disabled. I am able to
access files on my XP machines AND on my Vista machine from my Vista machine,
but not the reverse. The name of the network is consistent on all of the
machines. As far as I can tell regarding the type of network, there are only
"Public" and "Private" options. Mine is set to Private as per the many
directions I have read.
My router is a Netgear router using DHCP with dynamic IP addresses.
I am only using the Windows Firewall right now, and I have enabled "File and
Print Sharing" in the advanced properties of the Windows Firewall.
As far as the "Win HTTP Web Proxy Autoproxy Discovery" service, when I check
in Windows Services, I see it is "running."
Thank you so much in advance for your response. I have tried everything I
have found written in these groups to no avail. I have been working on this
for days! I am beginning to regret my Vista Ultimate upgrade. I had XP (and
all of the previous operating systems back to OS2) down pat.
Does anyone have any ideas for me?
Thanks!
