Try some of the troubleshooting techniques listed below:

Problem - I can't access the Internet from any computer on my wireless
network.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
----

There are several potential causes of Internet connection problems. If
you have a computer connected with Ethernet cables to your base station or
broadband modem, check first to see if that computer can access the
Internet. If it can't, the cause of the problem may be with your base
station or broadband modem. If only your wireless computers cannot access
the Internet, check your wireless settings on your wireless base station or
access point.

Several possible solutions are listed below, with solutions to the
most common issues listed first.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Check any computers connected to the network with Ethernet cables
a.. If you have computers connected to your network with Ethernet
cables, see if they can access the Internet. If neither the Ethernet
computers nor the wireless computers on your network can access the
Internet, the problem might be with your base station, modem, or Internet
service provider (ISP). In this case, follow the instructions below for
resetting your base station and broadband modem.

a.. If Ethernet computers can access the Internet, but computers
connected with wireless adapters cannot, the problem might be with your
wireless network configuration. Follow the instructions below to
troubleshoot the wireless settings on your base station and wireless
adapters.

Verify that your wireless base station is configured correctly for
wireless access
If the wireless base station settings are incorrect or not enabled,
you will not be able to access the Internet from any of your wireless
computers.

Verify that you are using the correct wireless settings on your
wireless adapters
You might have incomplete or incorrect wireless settings for your
adapter. To connect successfully, the wireless adapter on your computer must
have the same network name (SSID), wireless channel, and wireless security
(Wireless Equivalent Protection [WEP] and/or Wi-Fi Protected Access [WPA ])
information as your base station.

To check the wireless settings on a Microsoft base station, open the
Base Station Management Tool (from the Broadband Network Utility, if it is
installed). If you are using a non-Microsoft brand of wireless Base Station,
see the product documentation for that device. You can also access the base
station directly through your browser by going to the address (for Microsoft
base station) http://192.168.2.1. Then you can view and, if necessary,
correct your Microsoft wireless adapter settings.

The method for viewing and configuring wireless settings varies among
operating systems. For more information about viewing and modifying network
settings on your Windows operating system, search for "wireless network" in
Windows Help. If you are using a non-Microsoft brand of wireless adapter,
see the product documentation for that device.

Reset your broadband modem
Turn off the modem for 5 to 10 seconds. Restart the modem, and wait
for it to connect to your ISP. After the status lights on your modem
indicate that it is connected, and the status lights on your base station
show that you have a working wide area network (WAN) connection, try
accessing the Internet from your wireless computer again.

Reset your base station
Turn off or unplug the base station, wait at least 10 seconds, and
turn it back on again. Let the base station reset itself and reconnect to
your ISP. When the status lights on the base station show that you have a
working connection, try accessing the Internet from the wireless computer
again.

Check for wireless range and interference issues
a.. You might be out of range of the wireless access point. Place
the computers with the wireless adapters in the same room as your base
station and try connecting again. If you can connect to the wireless
network, you might previously have been out of range.
b.. Signals that are transmitted between the base station and a
wireless adapter are affected by interference from other wireless
devices-including 2.4 gigahertz (GHz) cordless phones, microwave ovens, and
neighboring wireless networks. Move the other devices further from your
wireless networking hardware as needed, and refrain from using them while
you are using the network. To minimize interference from another wireless
network, try changing channels.
