cannot connect to internet using PC Card

I have a Dell laptop w/XP pro on it and when I put the pc
card into it xp recognizes it asn says it is installed and
ready for use,But when I try to connect to the internet it
tells me that there is a hardware failure in the modem.
When I check Devise manager it says that it is working
properly and that it is enabled and no conflicts. When you
query the modem it tells you that the modem fails to
respond. I tried the card in a different laptop and it
works there. Any suggestions?
 
Unfortunately you may have to just purchase yourself
another (brand) modem for that particular laptop.
Sometimes, (as you may already know) some hardware just
don't mesh with certain systems. But if the other laptop
ISN'T< running XP, it may be due to the modem is not

compatible with XP itself. Try searching the
manufacturer's website for an updated driver for that
particular modem, hopefully it's something just that
