Hi there

Opening the DNS MMC generates the following error message:

Error 0x11d603
The DNS server service starts but does not respond to any
administrative requests except for stopping the service.
The event log says that it is unable to open Active
Directory. I have tried disabling auditing, but does not
help.

According to Microsoft they suggest the following:

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack
for Windows 2000. (KB292300)
Unfortunately this does not help me as the latest Service
Pack (SP4) is already installed.

Any help in this regard will be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks in advance

Sounds like a corruption. Could be an AD issue as well. You can reinstall
DNS for starters. Don't know how many users or DCs you have, but if you have
another DC that's a DNS server, or another server you can install DNS on,
use that server for AD and your users for the moment, and reinstall DNS. If
just a handful of users, don't worry about them. If you have manually
created entries, just remember to re-create them.

One question, is your AD domain name a single label name (domain instead of
the required domain.com or domain.local, etc, format)?
