I have a small office setup with about 10 pcs running a
mix of XP Pro and 2000 Pro through a 3com switch then to
our T-1 router. Each PC is assigned an individual ip
address and 2 default gateways. My problem is, none of
the computers on the network can see the shares of the
other and I can not share any of the printers connected
to my computers.
On the XP machines I have made sure that net bios over
tcp/ip is selected and compute rbrowser service is
running. I have also turned off all firewalls to see if
that helped but it did not.
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

David

I had a similiar problem.

Here are some tips to consider:
1. turn off firewalls for trouble shooting purposes
2. make sure you have enabled netbios over tcp/ip
3. make sure that all pc's have the same subnet mask or
they won't see eachother.
4. you might have to do an ipconfig/release and renew on
your pc's so they all have the same subnet mask.

Is file and print sharing checked?
.
File and printer sharing is checked.
All PC's are assigned individual IP addresses because
DHCP is off on our router.
All Subnet masks are the same.
Firewalls are off.
I can ping individual ip's but can not browse for pc's or
network resources.
TCP over netbios is enables and computer browser service
is started.
I have also rebooted the router, switch (3com superstack
II/500 24 port) and all pc's.
Windows XP firewall is off.

Really puzzling.

Can you connect to the machines by IP address?

Also, do all the machines belong to the same workgroup?

What does "browstat.exe STA" show on a few of the machines?

It almost sounds like the switch is not passing on broadcast packets.

Thanks,
Dave
