Cannot connect more than 6 stations

All of the sudden (and I've been using Win2K with Term services for over 2
years) I get a message saying that "The client could not establish a
connection to the remote computer" Gives the suggestions about licensing etc.

Thing is, we have adequate terminal services licenses, adequate Win2K
licenses, but only 6 machines can connect. If I disconnect one, then another
can connect, but only to a max of 6.

In checking the Terminal Services licensing, only 1 license has ever been
given out from the 8 that we bought, and all the machines show having built
in licensing, so I'm totally ocnfused.

Any ideas??

Stephen

If disconnecting one client makes it possible for another one to
connect, then your problem is with normal server CALs, *not* with
TS CALs. Server CALs are counted for concurrent sessions.

Have a look at the Licensing applet in Control Panel. Either you
need more server CALs, or (most likely), the Licensing counter has
gone crazy. It is known to do this, and the remedy is to simply
stop the Licensing Service altogether, and change its start method
to "disabled".

I'll double check that right away.

(my apologies for posting 3 times. It showed as failed when I tried this
and the next one!)

THANK YOU!!

Go figure, this worked perfectly.

Now, are there any issues that will arise as a result of having this service
disabled?

Stephen

I knew it would work :-)

No, there are no technical issues.
But you will have to keep track of the number of clients and the
number of server CALs in one way other the other, to avoid
violation of the EULA. So a bit more manual bookkeeping...
