I'm trying to connect my Windows 2000 server to an NT domain but it won't
connect. The error message I receive is "Cannot connect to the pre-windows
2000 domain". Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

PS. The NT machine is a PDC.

You have to setup a trust to the other domain to connect
to the other domain. Each domain must have some way to
find the domain controller in the other domain.
You could try registering in Wins in the other domain for
the PDC or use a lmhost file for the other domain.

Steve is correct but let me add just a little bit more to that.

Try to telnet to these ports by IP address 53, 42,389, 135, 139 you should
get a blank screen on each one. Like Steve said wins is the Key, i would not
recommend using LMHOST files (even though they work) you have a tendency to
forget about them when you change IP address and then its usally the last
thing you check. If you use them make sure you run NBTSTAT -R, and then
NBTSTAT -c to see if everything is registring correctly. Also make sure that
you check enable Lmhosts lookup. So use wins. If you use a NT4.0 Wins Sever,
make server the primary and alternate wins IP address are the same, In
Windows 200 make sure you only list one on the Wins tab. In Wins make sure
you have the 1CH Domain Controller and the 1BH Domain master browser.
