Cannot Close IE6

Running Win2000 SP4 with all the latest MS updates as of 2 days ago.
Dr. Watson has been disabled. IE debugging has been disabled.

Sometimes, when going to certain sites, especially those with streaming
video, IE freezes. Unable to close with Alt+F4 nor with Task Manager.
Any attempts to close the program result in the following dialog box:

"The program cannot be closed. If it is being debugged, please resume
it or close the debugger first."

The frozen IE window will close on its own after several minutes (5 or
more). So far I've been unable to find a solution from any Google
search.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks Dave,

I'll take a stab at this.

Exactly. It probably wants to take a dump. Please let it
and report the Error Signature, etc.

Are there any event records or have you disabled them too?

In fact, it's possible that by enabling a crash report you could avoid that
wait. It could be that some program is in a loop--accessing undefined
addresses as a result--but because you have disabled diagnostics,
which normally would intercept such erroneous behaviour immediately,
it just keeps going until end of memory. How much RAM do you have

Dave, thanks for pointing me to the IE6 group and Robert thanks for
replying. Disabling Dr. Watson and IE debugging was mentioned in some
threads as a possible solution to the IE hanging problem which was
occurring before I disabled them. When I go to the event viewer I see
Event ID 54 listed at the time of the error. BTW I can open another
instance of IE and browse with no problems while the initial window
remains frozen. I can also work in other applications as well. I'll get
back to you later today with other details you asked about.

If the event 54 was something to the effect of'

"The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or
message DLL"

It simply means the developer provided a means to write to the event log,
but didn't provide a description for this event. Finding the source of this
event may also help.
