Cannot Change User Settings

I tried to change the way users log on and off on my system and a
message appeared which reads "Automation server can't create object".
I cannot make the changes nor can I determine what is causing this
messge. Also, when I use the 3-finger salute to view task manager,
the window that opened giving me the choice of viewing the task
manager, shutdown, etc. is no longer appearing but rather the task
manager opens directly. I think these two problems are related. Any
help is most appreciated.

Try going to Start\Run and executing:

regsvr32 shimgvw.dll

Then return to User Accounts.
