Cannot change presentation

I have one machine which has a strange problem. The user has a couple
PowerPoint presentations which are about 15 MB each. He opens both so he can
cut and paste between the two. If he opens outlook or word and goes back to
the presentation he can no longer select anything on the presentation. The
only fix is to reboot the computer and start over.

He had office 2000 premium then we upgraded him to office XP (this is when
the problem arise), plus we installed virtually every service pack. The OS
is windows 2000 Pro SP4 and all patches are applied. His machine is 2.2 GHz
AMD with 256 MB RAM and 25 GB available disk space.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I'd suspect resources, but this sounds more drastic than that -- plus
it's a speedy machine.

Some things to try (most of which have worked for me at one time or
another when confronted with strange behavior such as this)

1. Change hardware acceleration. Instrux at
http://www.rdpslides.com/pptfaq/FAQ00129.htm I'd guess lower is better
in this case.

2. Update or reinstall your mouse drivers. I know, it sounds weird.

3. Update your video drivers.

4. Make sure you have a default printer driver available to the
computer. http://www.rdpslides.com/pptfaq/FAQ00034.htm for specifics. I
know, that sounds weird, too. <g>

5. If all else fails, check to make sure you haven't been hit with that
W32.Blaster worm thing. I've seen reports saying that people can't
copy/paste and other stuff like that when they've been hit with it.

6. See if turning off your virus scanning software makes a difference.

Hopefully one of those will take care of it. If not, holler back and
we'll scratch our heads some more.
