Hi,

In win2000 Advanced Server (with Terminal Server in Application mode)
it is necessary (in relation to Roaming Profiles) to change the key:
\computer\administrative template\system\logon:
"do not check for user ownership of Roaming Profiles folder"

After each logon this key is resetted to "not configured"

What can be the cause, and how to overcome this?
(all patches till 19 october are installed)

Thanks for your attention!

Hi Andre-

It sounds like there is a group policy that is giving that setting to that
server. TO check, you can use GPRESULT/RSOP on the affected terminal
server.

The output should give a list of the group policies that are applying to
that machine. Once you have that list, check the GPOs in that list for the
defined setting below, then change it:

Computer Configuration->Administrative Templates->System->User Profiles.
The setting name is (as you saw) "do not check for user ownership of Roaming
Profiles folder".

Hi Tim,

Thanks for your help. You learned me a new command.
We have a group policy (via Novell Package) just to enable the meant
key. It works on workstations, not on TerminalServer.
I looked with the command GPRESULT if there were more policies which
could have effect on the key, but that is not the case.
So for me it is a mystery!
(I posted the question also in a TerminalServer newsgroup)

Do I miss something? Is there something faulty in equating Workstation
and Server in respect to their behaviour as client in a Novell
network?

Hi Andre-

It might be a good idea to touch base with Novell on this. If it turns out
we can assist (with some guidance from them on what needs to be done) please
repost to let us know. Otherwise, it looks like this issue may be more
centered on their product. However, please repost if we can help.

Hi Tim,

Tonight I've uninstalled my NovellClient, and step by step I tried to
come to the wished situation. After each step and each restart I
checked if the key "Do not check for User Ownership of RoamingProfiles
Folder" stayed enabled, and yes, that was the case.
I'm not 100% sure, but I think the difference with the earlier
situation is, that I now installed the Novell Client on the Terminal
Server in INSTALL mode.
Do you think (or can you check at your colleagues) this may be the
reason that things are OK now?

Thanks for your support!
Greetings
