Cannot change home page in Internet Explorer

Where I work, we set up all PCs so that the default home page on the PC is
our website. I don't remember how long ago, but the company that hosts our
website made a change and whenever you typed in our web address it added
/index.htm to it. So when we set up any new PCs, IE used the entire address,
including the /index.htm. We have redone our website and it went live
Tuesday. Now the web address with the /index.htm doesn't work. Here is
where the problem is, anyone who previously had their home page set to ours
with the /index.htm cannot change it! I am the only here who has IE7 and I
cannot change mine, but there are others here who have IE6 can also cannot.
We do have a group policy set up that only certain logins are members of, and
their home page is set to ours and it cannot be changed, but they are okay.
Some people here have a different website set up as their homepage and they
can change theirs to the new one.

As I have done research on this, I have uninstalled Ad-Aware and Spybot from
my PC in case they were restricting the change. I also unchecked the Link
Enabled on all our group policies, forced an update on my PC and tried to
change the home page, but that didn't help. I cannot change the home page in
the registry setting as is suggested my article 320159.

Help! I am all out of ideas, and need to get this fixed. For now, our web
site hosting company has put back out the /index.htm, but they say it is only
out there temporarily. Not sure how it can be temporary when they seem to
have made it a permanent change at some point in time, but it at least
aleviates some of my headache.

Thanks in advance for any ideas or suggestions anyone may have.

First try addy w/o the /index if not good try whois for your domain name to
make sure you have correct ISP

If I type in just the address without the /index.htm I can get to the website
no problem. And even on my IE7 where I can set multiple pages to
automatically come up with the tabs, I can add one for our website, and that
comes up just fine in another tab, but the first one always comes up with the
/index.htm. Very frustrating!

It will always be the index page first in the main url unless you specify
something differant in your internet options default page

Mu guess is something to with your caches on these PCs and the server, try
to clear or force the browser to look for new pages every time its open, how?.
= Click Start >> Control Panel>>Network and Internet Connections >> Double

On the IE properties windows you will see these Tabs:

Advanced.
Under General Tab click on Settings button.
On the settings window make sure this Radio button is selected/active:
(*) Automatically

or (*) Every time you start IE.
Click [OK] and see if the browser will pull the new page!.

In the registry Editor click on this KEY:
[+] HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main.
Loook in the Right Pane/Window for Local Page Right click on it and select
Modify.
In the new window Input the Data C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\blank.htm and click OK.
Then Locate *Start Page* and there put the New Home page you want, Right
Click on it and select Modify and in the Data: http://www.bbc.co.uk for Ex
and click OK.

The same on this KEY:
[+] HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main.
Local Page change to C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\blank.htm.

Start Page
:http://www.microsoft.com/isapi/reddir.dll?prd={SUB_PRD}&clcid={SUB_CLSID}&pver={SUB_PVER}&ar=home

One or more options/settings in an ever-growing number of third-party
applications may be disallowing the change(s) from "sticking". These include
but are not limited to Ad-aware's Ad-Watch, Spybot Tea Timer,
SpywareBlaster, SpySweeper, Spyware Doctor, Norton AntiVirus, McAfee
VirusScan and/or Antispyware, and Zone Alarm (Free and Pro).

PS: If you had Ad-Aware Pro installed and Ad-Watch enabled and/or you had
Spybot's Tea Timer enabled and you did NOT disable it/them before
uninstalling, there's a good chance that restrictions are still in place.
