Hello

I need to change the computername on a Windows 2000 Professional client PC
connecting to a Windows 2000 Server using Active Directory.

I am doing this like this:

Control Panel, System.

Click on Change button, change computername.

Prompted for user with admin privileges to make change.

Enter domain admin account but get message:

The following error occurred attempting to rename the computer to
'XYZCOMPUTERNAME'. The credentials supplied conflict with an existing set
of credentials

I even created another account with domain admin privileges and used that -
but got same error

How can I fix this?

Angus

not sure why it would be happening but have you tried taking the PC off the
domain, renaming it then adding it back to the domain?

if you can't log on how are you getting into control panel?

If you right click my computer --> properties --> Net ID --> Properties then
add to a workgroup
