Cannot change computer name on Win2k Network

I have a network with a Win2k Server working fine for several months.
Now I got a little problem. Everytime I try to change a coputer name to
the network I get the following error message:

The credentials supplied conflict with an existing set of credentials.

I cant figure out how to get around that. Any help would be appreciated.

net use * /del <enter>

Then try.
