Cannot Burn Movie to DVD

I have a couple of questions that are related, but not the issue I am having.
I have a 70 minute video I put together with picture, video, and music that
I saved on my computer using the default settings. Recently I tried to save
it to a DVD via my DVD Burner. I have software (NERO) that came on my
computer to burn DVD's, but it does not recognize the default file format I
saved the movie as. I then saw online that you have to use "Other Settings"
and save as a DV-AVI. I found my project and tried to save with the "Other
Settings", but after 4 hours the status bar was only 1/2 way and the
remaining time left said 544 minutes. So my first question is: Why is the
saving function taking so long? What am I doing wrong? Second question:
Once the project is saved under the DV-AVI format, is that when I open NERO
and find this file and burn it to my DVD?

===================================
If you are not receiving errors...the file
may complete the save...you'll just have
to wait. Freeing up resources and installing
more memory can speed up this process.

If you find that you cannot save...maybe the
following article will offer some ideas:

Second question: Once the project is saved under the DV-AVI format,
is that when I open NERO and find this file and burn it to my DVD?
===================================
Yes, but if you only have the OEM version of
Nero it may not recognize .wmv or .avi files.
NeroVision Express should work if you have it:

Maybe these links will offer some ideas:

The following info is for NeroVision Express
2 but I suspect the info could still be useful:

Thanks for the information. Will have to go through it and do the checks
once I am in front of my desktop at home.

But until then, I have another question related to your response. I don't
have the NERO Express that you detail below and so I may have to buy some
software to be able to burn the movie I created in Windows Movie Maker to a
DVD. Can you provide me with some possible software recommendations that is
very compitable with Windows Movie Maker so that it would be very minimal to
no configuration I would have to do, but simple "plug n play".

All the DVD Authoring software I've
tried has a learning curve...I suspect
you'll have to spend some time reading
the manual and experimenting.

Personally, I have had success with
InterVideo WinDVD Creator, and
also ProShow Gold. There are many
DVD authoring programs and all I
can say is pick one and give it a try.

I tried to save the project again, but this time I watched the memory usuage
during the saving. I saw the peak (~770K) was no where near the limit
number (~1.5G). I also saw that once the movie was 55% complete (about 1
hour after I started) the CPU Usage went to zero. I left it alone for
another 2 hours and it did not move from that point. Anything I can check to
see why my movies are not saving as a DV-AVI file?

Have you tried saving a smaller project?

more often than not, the cause is a Codec issue, related to either your
source video or your music you inserted. Movie maker is notorious for not
playing well with mp3's. if you have inserted mp3's into your timeline, use
your favorite music software to convert them to .wma or .wav files. your
issue may also be related to the video you added to your file. DivX, Xvid
and mpg can all cause issues with rendering your movie. If you haven't
already, go to papjohn's website and explore the "can't save movie" page for
a wealth of knowledge.

KDE

Not to act ignorant, by what Papa John site? Is there a specific website
and if so, how do I get to it?

John

Tried to save a smaller project and was successful, but the file was a wmv
not an avi file format even though I used the "other options" and selected
the DV-AVI. Why is that the case?

I already posted a link to the article
suggested by KDE...

And here's a link to the main PapaJohn site...

========================
You selected...DV-AVI...and the
result was a .wmv file? I suggest
you give that another try because
I don't think it's possible. Maybe
you accidentally selected the
choice above or below DV-AVI.

I suspect a large part of your saving
problems are caused by a lack of
adequate system resources.
