Cannot browse or ping google.com, altavista.com or lycos.com

For some reason I can no longer connect to the major search
engines. I can't ping them either. It just times out. I have
scanned for viruses and removed spy and ad ware but still
can't get there. I can surf anywhere else. I think I may have
had a virsus that rewrote my system files or something but
I'm not an expert in that area.

I have also deleted all my cookies and cleard my files
including my off line content but no go.

Any Idea on how to fix this problem?
