Cannot boot into Win2K after running MS ASb

As suggestions other that reformatting/reinstalling?

Problem:
After installing and running the Microsoft AntiSpyware beta
(MS ASb), I can no longer get one of my PCs, running
Windows 2000, to boot up. My other 2K machine runs fine
after using MS ASb.

Symptoms:
While booting up, the bios shows no errors.
The Windows 2000 splashscreen chows up and Windows loads
up. However, before the logon dialog appears (but after
the desktop background appears) the PC will reboot.

What I have tried:
- I tried Safe Mode - same problem.
- I tried "Load the last Known Good Configuration" - same
problem.
- I tested the hardware to eliminate that from being a
possible cause.
- I ran chkdsk /r to repair any errors - no errors found

NOTE: I noticed that despite all the reboots, the scan disk
utility never seems to launch during boot up. Is this not
an illegal shutdown? What would cause it to reboot and keep
Windows from seeing an error? The Windows Updates are
current, so nothing should be able to simply use the
"shutdown -a" command.

Somebody had a similar problem with Windows 2000, I don't know what to
suggest, since you have tried all the alternatives there are. Which service
pack is installed on that copy of Windows 2000, SP 1, 2, 3, 4? You probably
might have to boot off the disk and do an upgrade over existing
installation, but you have ensure the disk has the same service pack as the
one that is installed on the hard disk.

Its on SP4. I don't have a disc for that version. I only
have 2K Pro disc. I usually download the SPs, but it would
not be hard to create one. I will also check our MS
Subscription Discs for a Win2K SP4 disc.

Until then, any further ideas would be appreciated.

Ok, so you do have some alternatives, either slipstream with your 2000 Disk,
to create a new 2000 SP4 Disk. Or pray you have 2k SP4 Disk, do an
upgrade/repair over that existing copy of Win2k4 on your hard disk.
