Cannot Boot "Insert floppy into Drive A:" Error

When booting it gives me the following Error"Insert floppy into Drive A:" and
i cannot boot. I can put a bootable floppy and see each of the partition and
from Bios i can see the hard disks...I have a pentium 3 550Mhz 256ram WinXP
Professional SP2...what could be the problem.
before the last time i shutdowned it took a really long time to shutdown, i
had to power it off manually.

try booting from your XP cd and from the repair console
issue the command chkdsk /r

Make sure you have a backup before trying this. Something is going wrong
with one of your hard disks or the file system. Running chkdsk may fix it.
If it is a hardware problem it may corrupt the file system to the point that
data recovery is not possible.
