Hello,
I have a new Maxtor 40 giga hard disk;
I want to install win2k professional on it
I made a partition of 18 Giga and
formatted it with FAT32.
Now, I started installing from win2k professional
install cd rom.
after stage 1 is finished (scanning hardware and
copying files) there appears a message that it
reboots; after reboot, it hangs ; it does not
succeed to continue to next stage of installation.

I had perormed , using Maxtor utilities (PowerMax)
all HardDisk checks and all were OK; I had also performed
low level format (the advanced one) and
try to reinstall Win2k and again the same happened.

What can be the reason ?
reagards,

Is the partition set as active? Check this with fdisk from a Win9x startup
disk.

Another option is to not create the partition before installing, just boot
from the Win2000 CD and let setup create the partition.

Best regards

Bjorn,
First thnks;
Second , I think I was misunderstood;

I did not create the partition
before installing.
I did create the partition with
windows 2000 installer.

(The only thing I did , before
the second try of installing win2k,
was to perform a low level format using Maxtor
Power Max utility).

Did you check if the partition is set as active?

What do you see on the screen after POST? Any detail can be valuable in
figuring out what is - or isn't - happening.

Best regards

Bjorn

I AM HAVING THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM. THE ONLY DIFFERENCE
IS THAT I HAVE A WESTERN DIGITAL 40GB HDD. I WILL CHECK
TO SEE IF THE PARTITION IS ACTIVE.
