Cannot boot computer

I just went to start my computer and it would not go beyond the motherboard
info screen. The screen has the option to enter the bios by pressing F2, but
the screen is frozen and cannot get to bios. I unplugged and tried again
but same result. I then tried booting from XP CD and also from a boot
floppy with same result (screen stops at motherboard info screen and
freezes). Any ideas???

The screen seems frozen because you are using a USB keyboard. When the bios
defaults back, as it seems to have done, you need a PS2 keyboard or an
adapter plug to be able to enter the bios. Then you can make your changes.

As a suggestion try reseating your memory stick and check that all
connections to your hard drive are secure. As your machine stops at the
motherboard info it may be a hardware problem, so check that all your
connection are secure. Does anything else happen? Does the machine beep at
all? If so how many beeps.

I am not using a USB keyboard. Previously the screen I am speaking of would
remain on for about 10 seconds and then the computer would automatically
continue to start. Now nothing will happen. And I don't hear any starting
beeps or sounds from the computer.

That is a hardware issue. Check and see if you ram is
sitted right if you have more than one stick take them out
and try one at a time... Also make sure that ur cooling
fan on the proccesor is seated right especially if you
have an amd proccessor alot of times people do not install
the cooling fan right and the system exhibits such
symptoms. Also if you have tweaked your bios set it back
to the fail safe or system default and boot the pc.

Thank you all for your responses. I'll try the suggestions. I can't get to
the BIOS, but I haven't tweaked anything there anyway. Thanks again.

FYI: It was the USB connected scanner that was causing the problem. I
disconnected the USB cable and power cable, then reconnected and all is
well. Thanks again.
