Cannot boot because pciide.sys is corrupted.

I am so frustrated, I am able to get the windows slipstreamed CD to start to
boot, even get as far as the blue windows setup screen, but then I get a
message saying that the file pciide.sys is currupt, and I can go no further!!

I have attempted to over-write it and even copy one from my CD, but of
course, this is a system file, and it cannot be installed while in windows
setup. HHEELLPP! I am about to throw my computer in the lake!

BYW: I really am not stupid, but this seems to have been really challenging
for me for some reason.

I seemed to have solved the pciide.sys is currupt issues by merging the
drivers as instructed. The Setup went fine, even getting as far as entering
the product key and even registering online, then it just hangs, blank
screen, pointer arrow visible and active. However, not even Ctrl-Alt Delete
will reboot the system. I have to literally unplug my battery on my laptop
to get it to shut down!

I wonder if the boot.ini might be the problem:
[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP
Proffessional" /fastdect /noexecute=optin

....shouldn't it be:
[boot loader]
timeout=5
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP
Proffessional" /fastdect

I have attempted to add EDIT.CO_ and EDIT.HL_ to my slipstream CD, and whn I
am in The Repair Existing Copy console, the help files are installed on the
C:\ Drive, however, when I... 1) Enter Help, Edit does no show up on the list
of supported commands (am I missing some additional support files for the
Help command to work) and 2) access is denied to boot.ini.

I am so close, I am really bummed at the prospect of having to reformat my
partition although I did have the forethought to back most files on a 2GB
memory 'stick'. How can I modify my boot ini and copy it to my C:\ drive,
that is if you think that may be the problem?

Hello again;
I was able to get to past the pciide.sys corrupted problem and get into
Recovery console. I copied the following files:
ntoskrnl.ex_ to c:\windows\system32\ntoskrnl.exe
user32.dl_ to c:\windows\system32\user32.dll
kernel32.dl_ to c:\windows\system32\kernel32.dll
THEN as instructed by tour tech note copied:
atapi.sy_ to c:\windows\system32\drivers\atapi.sys
intelide.sy_ to c:\windows\system32\drivers\intelide.sys
pciide.sy_ to c:\windows\system32\drivers\pciide.sys
HOWEVER: I got a 'File could not be copied' error message on:
pciidex.sy_ to c:\windows\system32\drivers\pciidex.sys
ALSO: on the initial installation attempt from my slipstreamed XP Pro-SP2 CD
I got the following errors that the file could not be copied on four files:
ntshared.chm
oembios.bin
pciidex.sys
packager.exe
I then attempted to copy these files while still in Recovery Console and got
the error message "File could not be copied" after the "Overwrite file (Yes,
No, All)

I modified the boot.ini to:
[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP
Professional" /fastdetect

And while still in Recovery Console was able to overwrite the existing
Boot.ini file.
I entered EXIT, and got the initial Windows Start Up Screen, then the system
hung again, blank screen, arrow pointer displayed and active.

There must be something wrong with my slipstream XP-SP2 CD that will not
recognize ntshared.chm, oembios.bin, pciidex.sys, and packager.exe and by
proceeding with the installation has screwed up the complete Win XP-PRO SP2
install?!

Please tell me that there is a way to start anew without having to reformat
my entire partition and starting over.
