ARGGGH..well I tried every suggestion that you gave Milly with no luck.
I did have a PDA in cradle, I do have Norton doing real time scans but
after disabling both I still can't back up. Suggestions 2 and 3 don't
apply and I'm not sure what #4 refers to (COM Add-ins). I guess I'll
just need to do manual backups after rebooting using SyncBack. I have
this 'work-around' but things like this drive me nuts and I feel
compelled to find a fix.
Some common reasons why Outlook will not shut down completely when you click either the X or Exit:
1. PDA synchronization software with your PDA in the cradle.
2. WinFax Pro (especially 10.02 in Outlook 2003) - contact their support for an alleged fix.
3. Franklin-Covey Plan Plus!
4. COM Add-ins.
5. Mail reminder add-ins that keep a stub of Outlook open in the background to check for new mail and fire reminders.
6. Anti-virus/firewall programs that are set to scan incoming and outgoing mail.

||
|| There's no reason to uninstall Outlook and you never have to import

| I appreciate your response Brian but I haven't really been able to fix
| my problem since I have no idea how to find out what is keeping the
| PST open.
| Are you saying it may be an Office application? they only type add-in
| I've applied is Sounds and also the backup utility. Other than that is
| there a type of non-Microsoft app that accesses a PST? Thanks again.
