This question is regarding a W2K server with SP3. It is a
domain controller for a small network and used only for
file and print services. Here is my problem: somehow the
CREATOR OWNER permissions for the Spool\Printers directory
have been changed so that CREATOR OWNER has no NTFS
permissions...that it, CREATOR OWNER is listed in the
security tab, but all permissions are blank. If you try to
change the permissions, they get set back to blank. I
have tried all sorts of things to reset the permissions,
including configuring the server with Security Analysis
using the basicdc.inf and the security dc.inf policies,
but nothing I do will let me change the NTFS permissions
assigned to CREATOR OWNER. CREATOR OWNER has no
permissions all the way back to the root of all drives.

Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks.

Did you look in advanced permissions to if any permissions were there? Sometimes it
may appear that a user has no permissions on the main property page, but they do in
the advanced page with special permissions. If they are in the advanced page, you
should be able to remove that group from there and then readd it back with necessary
permissions on main security property page. If permissions are inherited, you may
need to select "copy to" box on advanced page which will make permissions explicit
and allow you to change. Also see link about restoring security settings back to
default using secedit. You could use the command as shown, but append " /areas
filestore " to the end of it to try to restore ntfs permissions. --- Steve
